Studies on pathogenic species of Pythium from spring maize seedlings in Zhejiang Province [China]

Eight species of Pythium were isolated from spring maize seedlings in Dongyang and Tiantai County of Zhejiang Province from April to March, 1990. They were identified to be P. acanthophoron, P. aphanidermatum, P. debaryanum, P. graminicola, P. irregulare, P. spinosum, P. tardicrescens and P. ultimum. In inoculation tests, all eight species isolated from maize roots were pathogenic to their hosts. The caused corn seed rot, root rot or seedling death. P. aphanidermatum was the most virulent pathogen to spring maize
