Rapeseed oil, full-fat rapeseed and tallow in rations of dairy cows. 1. Effect on the feed dry matter, crude protein and crude fibre degradability in sacco

The experiment was carried out with 4 non-lactating dairy cows, fitted previously with ruminal cannulas. Cows, additionally to the basal diet, were fed either 0.250 kg rapeseed oil, 0.250 kg tallow or 0.640 kg full-fat rapeseed meal. Ruminally, applying the in sacco method, three grass feeds were incubated in order to estimate dry matter, crude protein and crude fibre degradability. All the feeds were incubated 2, 4, 8, 16, 32 and 64 hours. The results obtained from the experiment indicated that concerning the ruminal digestibility of grass feeds, the tallow should be considered the best of the three fats examined. The rations of fatty rapeseed should be preferred to the rations of rapeseed oil. This reduces the toxic effect of rapeseed oil long-chain unsaturated fatty acids on cellulolytic bacteria, and it does not suppress ruminal crude fibre digestibility
