Biocontrol of crown gall disease in Jordan

Sixty nine different bacterial isolates obtained from apple, apricot, peach, pear, plums, grape, olive and roses, showing tumors, and from soil samples, were biochemically and physiologically tested. These isolates comprised three different biotypes of Agrobacterium tumefaciens in addition to a novel intermediate goup which were prevailing in Jordan. In a plate well technique, 78% and 84.8% of all of Agrobacterium tumefaciens tested isolates were found sensitive to agrocin 84 and 1026 strains, respectively. Dipping wounded roots of tomato seedlings, cultivar NS 268 in one of the antagonistic bioagents K84, K1026 or commercial Nogall product before inoculation with Agrobacterium tumefaciens suspension suppressed or completely inhibited tumor formation
