[Let us brood chickens]

The importance of choosing the right poultry breed either for eggs or meat production is explained. It is pointed out that the quality of eggs as well as the health and viability of future chickens depend on the composition and content of feed given to broody hens. Brooding conditions such as the dsign and preparation of nests, the use of proper litter and regular cleaning of the nests are discussed. The necessary quality and size of eggs used for brooding as well as the egg storage conditions to preserve their quality before putting them under the hens are described. The number of eggs in a brooding nest is recommended.
