Two cultivars of Zea mays i.e., Akbar and Sadaf were irradiated with a range of doses from 1kr to 80kr gamma rays from a 60 Co source. Number of cobs per plant, number of seeds per cob and yield (100 seed weight) of the two cultivars were studied at different doses. At the low doses of 1kr, and 5kr, mean number of cobs per plant was higher than the control. Mean number of seeds per cob was also higher than the control. The increase was more in Akbar than in Sadaf. However, no increase in 100 seed weight was observed. Thus the cobs per plant and seeds per cob was increased at low dose but the seed size or seed weight was not affected. From 5kr onwards the cobs per plant, seeds per cob and yield was reduced with the increasing dose of radiation
