Composite soil samples were taken at two depths (0-15 cm and 15-45 cm) from 66 sites of NWFP, and analysed for hot water soluble boron to know its relationship with the physicochemical characteristics of the soil. Hot water soluble boron content ranged from 0.04-0.86 mg/kg and 0.04-0.84/kg in top and sub soil, respectively. Hot water soluble boron was deficient (below 0.5 mg/kg) in 95%, and adequate (5.0 mg/kg) in 5 % soil samples. Available boron content had significant positive correlation with E.C. and CaCO3 content and negatively significant correlation with clay content of the soil
