Effect of different temperatures on the efficacy of different pesticides on Sitobion avenae and its predator Coccinella septempunctata

Some studies were carried out on the effect of different temperatures on the efficacy of different pesticides on Sitobion avenae and its predator Coccinella septempunctata in the laboratory. The results indicates that maximum mortality of 53.3% was caused by Sumicidin after 24 hours of application at 25 degree centigrade where as maximum knock down effect, i.e, 33.3% was caused by Afugan at 5 degree centigrade after 72 hours of an application. Generally Karate showed negative temperature coefficient and Sumicidin and Afugan showed positive coefficient. In case of Coccinella septempunctata the rate of mortality decreased as the temperature increased up to some extent and again started to decline whereas knockdown effects decreased as temperature increased in karate and Sumicidin. Similar trend was also shown by Afugan except 10 degree centigrade where its action was little bit neutral. Whereas sickness aspect of the beetles, all the chemicals showed positive temperature coefficient. As the mortality as per the sex is concerned different chemicals behaved differently at different temperatures. Generally males were more susceptible than females.
