Application of porous ceramic cups method to estimating potential nitrate leaching from grassland soils

In 2-year experiment the usability of porous ceramic cups to determine nitrate N concentration in soil solution and leaching nitrates from grassland was studied. Either the nitrate N concentration and N leaching losses in light mineral soil depended on soil pH and moisture content, rate and form of nitrogen fertilizers. Sufficient moisture in soil reduces nitrogen leaching and prevents the ground water contamination by nitrates. The tested method proved to be useful in field experiments
