Wear tests of ridger shares in potato planter and the results of average resistance force at cutting soil were presented. Field tests were carried out on sandy and loamy soils, loose and compacted by tractor wheels. The impact damages to carbon steel shares occurred irrespective of type and condition of soil. Sectional modulus of share and bending forces were determined. A mathematical model to predict the extremal forces on the share at cutting soil under different conditions was developed. At working of implement on stony-sandy soil the peak loads exceeded about 7-times the value of normal loading
