Changes of calcium and iron content in peat-muck soils of the Masurian Lake District

The work presents the changes in calcium and iron content caused by the muck-forming processes which have been taking place for more than 100 years in the Masurian peatlands. The decrease in calcium and the accumulation of hydrogen were found in the muck horizons, which indicates the leaching of calcium in the course of mucky processes. The muckforming process leads to accumulations of iron which occurs almost totally in free form. Iron tends to form complexes with humus compounds.
