Dynamics of nitrate content in sugar beet leaves as affected by copper and boron foliar application

The effect of copper and boron foliar application on nitrate content in sugar beet leaves was studied in field experiment in 1987-91. Significant changes of nitrate content in leaves during vegetation were found in beets fertilized with low N doses (100 kg N/ha). This fertilizing, with or without B addition, more than with Cu, did not supply sufficient N doses for sugar beets during full row covering. Foliar B application in doses 0.6 kg/ha + 140 kg N/ha limited nitrate cumulation in final growth period allowing to use the leaves for animal feeding. However, foliar Cu application at rates 0.1-0.2 kg/ha increased nitrate contents in leaves along the whole vegetation period by 0.03-0.25% dry weight
