The possibility of gaining lucerne seed from the third cut in Southern Slovakia was confirmed in small-plot trials over 1992-1993. It is assumed that the lucerne will be first cut at the height of 0.5-0.6 m and thereafter during the second decade of June. With two premature cuttings dry matter yield can be increased, compared to the classical system of lucerne seed grown from the second cut. Quality of forage from the two premature cuts was better in crude protein content, amino-acid concentration and fiber content, in comparison with lucerne quality in the growth stage of flowering
