Increasing phosphorus efficiency of chemical fertilizer incorporated with compost on coarse-textural soils

Coarse textural soil is unfertile. It needs a large quantity of chemical fertilizer for high yield crop production. The efficiency of phosphorus chemical fertilizer in coarse textural soil is very low due to unsuited environmental factors for phosphorus availability in soil, especially phosphorus fixation and leaching loss. The addition of 0, 2.5 and 5.0 % (by volume) of organic compost to soils namely: Ban Bung, Satuk and Hup kapong soils which were treated without and with 0.4093 gramp of phosphate fertilizer was conducted. Corn was used as the testing plant. The results showed that Ban Bung and Satuk soils, which are low in available phosphorus and very low in organic matter content, the addition of organic compost increased the phosphorus efficiency of chemical fertilizer. In the case of Hup Kapong soil, which is high in available phosphorus (may be due to residual phosphorus fertilizer) addition of organic compost increased the phosphorus efficiency of chemical fertilizer.
