Experiment was conducted at Mae Hea Farm Research Station, Chiang Mai University. The objective of the study was to assess the efficacy of alachlor [2-chloro-2, 6-diethyl-N-(methoxymethyl) acetanilide] and oxyfluorfen [2 chloro-1-(3-ethoxy-4-nitrophenoxy)-4-(trifluoromethyl) benzene] on weed control in groundnut. Herbicides were treated as preemergence applied with knapsack sprayer in the spray volume of 80 liters/rai. The use of alachlor at the rate of 160, 320 and 480 g (ai)/rai and oxyfluorfen at 24, 48 and 72 g (ai)/rai provided the best control of both grass and broadleaf weeds. Phytotoxic symptoms from the application of oxyfluorfen were found in groundnut at the early stage of growth state when treated at the rate of 48-72 g (ai)/rai.
