Studies on feed cost of ground corn and whole cooked soybean as finishing pig feed

Experiment was performed in finishing pig (60-100 kg) to compare feed cost from ground corn+whole cooked soybean with other protein sources. Eighteen crossbred (Landrace x Large White x Duroc) pigs were assigned by Completely Randomized Design into three group and fed on three rations which are (1) whole cooked soybean (2) whole cooked soybean + mineral and vitamin and (3) fishmeal + soybean oil mean+mineral and vitamin. All the ration was based on ground corn as energy source in 70 days-period and there were one castrated male and one female in each experimental unit. ADG of pigs were 618.14; 575.86 and 633.33 gram/day; FCR were 3.97; 4.06 and 3.49; Average daily feed intake were 2.44; 2.32 and 2.19 kg; Feed cost/ 1 kg gain were 20.14; 20.60 and 17.60 baht, respectively. The differences among treatments in these characteristic study were non significant (p0.05). Ration formulated from ground corn and whole cooked soybean could be fed on finishing pig without problems on feed intake, gain and FCR. Furthermore, cost of the rations formulated from whole cooked soybean depended upon price of raw bean purchased so home-grown bean could be utilized with lower cost. This would lead to the utilization of home-grown crop as animal feed in remote area and lessen the problem of surplus production
