The chernozem of Vojvodina [Yugoslavia] - its fundamental chemical properties

The chemical characteristics of the chernozem soil in Vojvodina (Yugoslavia) and content of some indispensable microelements were investigated. Only 3.4 of the soil samples were acidic (pH6.2), 19.4 showed a neutral, and 77.5 a middle-alkaline to alkaline reaction. To the class of good humus provision belonged 36.2 of the soil samples, medium provision had 63.6, and only 0.2 of samples were in the class of soils that are considered as poor in this crucial component for crop production. Of the total number of analyzed samples, to the class of optimal and high provision in the available phosphorus and potassium belonged 80.8, whereas a content exceeding 50 mg/100 g soil was found in 6.0 (for P) and 5.7 (for K) of the samples. It can be concluded that the chernozem in Vojvodina (Yugoslavia) is very suitable for obtaining high and stable yields, and for high-quality crop production.
