Production and carcass characteristics of two genotypes of broiler chickens

Major production and carcass traits of Hybro and Arbor Acres broiler chickens were studied. After 42 days, Arbor Acres chickens had significantly higher average body mass (1868.69 g) compared to Hybro chickens (1811.47 g). Better feed conversion (2.03) and higher value of the production index (206.10) was established for Arbor Acres genotype of broilers. Lower mortality in the experiment was recorded for Hybro genotype (4.46). Arbor Acres chickens had significantly larger metatarsi (73.55 mm), and Hybro chickens significantly higher value of the breast angle (104.53 degrees). In other absolute (mm) and relative (g/mm) values of conformation measures no significant differences were established. Dressing percentage, as well as breast, thigh and drumstick yields were not significantly influenced by genotype. Considerably higher values for the yield of the abdominal fat were recorded for Arbor Acres chickens (1.60).
