On the basis of the experiments conducted during the 1964-95 period it can be formulated the following conclusions and recommendations. 1. On the soil of Romania that have over 2 per cent humus and over 3 per cent clay content, pyrazon has an unsatisfactory efficacy in weed control. 2. An effective control of dicotyledonous weeds has been realized only with lenacil applied at rates of 0.8-2.4 kg/ha. 3. Cycloate and metolachlor herbicides had a good efficacy in controlling monocotyledonous and less in controlling dicotyledonous weeds. 4. The best monocotyledonous and dicotyledonous weed control and the highest sugar beets yield had been realized only with the following treatments: (a) cycloate + lenacil or metolachlor + lenacil, (b) dimethenamid/butylate/lenacil. 5. The post-emergence herbicides on the base of triflusulfuron-methyl and desmedipham/phenmedipham have a good efficacy in controlling dicotyledonous weeds
