The anticoagulant effect of Coumachlor rodenticide alone or with three additives was examined against adult male and female albino rats. Coumachlor alone at 40 ppm in diet killed 30 of rats whereas the additives L-histidine (50 ppm), activated kaolinite clay (10000 ppm) and activated charcoal (10000 ppm of diet), tested individually, produced no mortality. However, combinations of Coumachlor with L-histidine, activated clay and activated charcoal gave 100, 80 and 70 kill, respectively. Further trial was carried out to evaluate the efficacy of Coumachlor plus L-histidine combination under different environmental conditions. All rats succumbed to this combination in the absence of alternative food. Mortality decreased to 70 when alternative food was provided alongside the poisoned diet. In general, adult male rats showed slight higher susceptibility to Coumachlor and its combinations with additives than adult females
