The authors intend to elaborate a brucellosis eradication program which could be used in the Amazonian region, an area characterised by extremely extensive animal husbandry practices. Under such conditions, eradication by selection is the only feasible approach. Brucellosis has been successfully eradicated from a herd with 22.1 percent prevalence of infection by two serological surveys using an indirect ELISA and the complement fixation test
