Proposed classification of some gypsiferous soils in Iraq

Through reconnaissance soil survey and classification studies to western desert area,lying between Latitudes 31-33 and Longitudes 40-43. Some of gypsiferous soils are found taxonomicaly not fit well all sub-groups of Gypsiorthids but revealed diagnostic characteristic of lithic contact within a depth less than 50cm from soil surface. This study indicates the importance of addition the new sub-group classification Lithic Gypsiorthids to soil taxonomy of 1975 applied in Iraq in order to increase its applicability
