Effects of indole-3-acetic acid and indole-3-butyric acid on the callus and adventitious organogenesis from cultured leaf explant african violet [Saintpaulia ionantha] in vitro

The effects of indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) and indole-3-butyric acid (IBA) regarding the callus and adventitious organogenesis of African violet (Saintpaulia ionantha Wendle.) cv.'Susie' leaves explant in vitro were studied. The days required for the calli and adventitious root formation were shorten accordingly at a low concentration was treated together with IAA and IBA, but required greatly by non-treatment. The number of adventitious shoots that proliferated were very few in the treatment of IAA, but in the non-treatment not shoots were formed. In the 0.5 and 2.5 mg/l IBA treatment, very few shoots could be found. The number of adventitious roots formed was increased by 0.5 mg/l treated together with IAA and IBA, but decreased during non-treatment. For total of fresh weight and dry weight of calli, shoots and adventitious roots that formed was increased accordingly at a low concentration treated together with IAA and IBA, but decreased by 10.0 mg/l treated together with IAA and IBA. The calli formation, adventitious organogenesis, total of fresh weight and dry weight on the leaf tissue culture in African violet showed good results during the IAA treatment compared with IBA
