The objective was to establish relationships between agricultural activities and the incidence of malaria of the population of an indigenous community in the subregion San Cristobal de los Altos de Chiapas. Information was obtained on work place, land use, volumes of coffee, corn and bean production, and number of family units involved in this production, as well as on wage work and handcrafts. Under the hypothesis that the greatest risks and prevalence of the disease was located in what is called "trabajaderos de tierra calienta", the productive cycle of these sites was analyzed. Results were that the strategies of economic reproduction which produce the highest risk and prevalence of malaria were those was related to those strategies of economic reproduction in wich the most, or second most, important activity was handcrafting
