Productivity of cotton and soybean intercropping at varying N-levels

Crop intensification is one way of increasing farm production specifically in small land holdings in order to satisfy the needs of increasing population. Inclusion of legumes in the cropping pattern may increase positive correlation between soybean dry matter yield and applied N levels and a negative correlation between grain yield and applied N levels were observed. Increasing the level of applied N gave a corresponding increase in cotton plant height, number of bolls, weight per boll and seedcotton yield. Plants not applied with N matured earlier than those plants that received N. Increased amount of N delayed cotton maturity. Plants applied with 100 kg N/ha had the highest benefit cost ratio (BCR).
