Bioaccumulation and toxicological effects of monocrotophos in goat (Capra hircus Linn. 1738)

Study on pesticide bioaccumulation and toxicological effects of monocrotophos on goats was carried out by repeated oral dose followed by slaughtering the animals serially. Thirteen yearling local male goats were daily fed with 120 gram of commercial concentrate (17 percent CP), and napier grass ad libitum. These animals were treated orally with 0.06 mg/10 kg body weight of 14C monocrotophos. The animals were randomly selected for slaughter on days 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21, 24, 27, 30, 33, and 36 of the dosing period. The control animal was not treated with any monocrotophos. Urine and feces were collected separately for the measurement of monocrotophos elimination. Blood samples of each animal were collected before dose treatment and at the time of slaughter for acetylcholinesterase. The liver, biceps femoris, longissimus dorsi, and abdominal fat were also collected for monocrotophos residue analysis through radioactive measurement. Histological observation of the liver samples was done. The observation during the dosing period indicated that the repeated daily oral dosing of monocrotophos, as much as 0.017 (e raised to 0.0069t - e raised to -0.1358 t), (R square=0.93); and Q(t)=0.055 (e raised to 0.00995 t - e raised to -2523t), (R square=0.88), for biceps femoris, longissimus dorsi, abdominal fat, and liver, respectively
