An investigation to evaluate the performance of different wheat varieties Pak-81, Sarhad-82, Faisalabad-83, Faisalabad-85, Pirsabak-85, Khyber-87, Barani-91 and Zarghoon were studied at Agronomic Research area, Faculty of Agriculture, Gomal University, Dera Ismail Khan, during 1991-92 in a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications. It was observed that 1000-grain weight was non significantly effected in all varieties, while plant height, number of tillers m-2, number of spikelets/spike, number of grains/spike, spike length, biological yield, economical yield and harvest index were significantly different in all the varieties. The results revealed that Pak-81 gave maximum grain yield (0.56 ton ha-1), plant height (80.5 cm), number of tillers m-2 (570), number of spikelets/spike (20.50), and biological yield (1.61 ton ha-1). Hence Pak-81 proved to be the best variety among the 8 varieties included in the test under the agro-climatic conditions of Dera Ismail Khan.
