Studies on the fertilizing value of organic sludges from bio-mechanically treated tannery wastes after chromium separation

Tannery sludge from the bio-mechanical treatment plant in comparison with manure contains more nitrogen, phosphorus, calcium and sodium and much less potassium while the content of magnesium is roughly the same. Taking into consideration the scale of production of this waste material in the tanning process (up to 50 percent of raw skin mass), sludge has a high fertilizing potential. The heavy metals content does not exceed the limit values accepted in the agricultural utilization of this material except chromium but there is a possibility of decreasing this content
