The United States Forest Service's Experience with Long-term Timber Sale Contracts in Alaska: What we have Learned in the Past Forty Years
1997
Huebner, A.E.
The purpose of this paper is to present a history of, and discussion of the long-term timber sale contracts in Alaska; specifically, what are the questions that need to be asked to determine the human, natural resource, and money trade-offs of offering a nationally-owned resource in a long-term sale to private industry. The paper is intended for all persons interested in their country's natural resources in assessing the circumstances under which a long-term commitment of public goods to the private sector will be in the national and/or local interest.
