Importance of honeybee (Apis mellifera L.) in enhancing hectare yields of some entomophilous crops

Honeybee (Apis mellifera L.) as main insect pollinator of various fruit and field crops is evaluated as one of their agrotechnical factors. In many experiments home and abroad concerning its pollinating activity, enhanced yields of fruit and seeds were proved. The Institute of Apiculture in Liptovsky Hradok (Slovakia) has contributed in this research field considerably. Economic effectiveness of pollinating activity of honeybees on various crops can be attractive for their growers. Tables show the percentage increase in yield for various crops pollinated by bees, and the degree of need of field and garden crops plus the number of beehives per hectare considered adequate for pollination
