Summary of changes in development of main game species since the beginning of game management reconstruction

Changes in stock of main game species in the years 1969 - 1989 are shown in Table 1. The biggest increase in stock numbers was recorded in small game (hare, pheasant, partridge) up to 1979. The increase in the number of red deer, mouflon and wild boar lasted till 1989. Economic and social changes in Slovakia in 1990 - 1997 resulted in the reduction in the stock of main game species. Only production of red deer and mouflon has increased. The population of wild boars was reduced most as a result of swine fever
