Margetin, M. | Capistrak, A. | Spanik, J. | Kalis, M.
In the first part of the study the present state of sheep improving in Slovakia is analysed. Improving program, breedingstandard and breeding aim were elaborated for all acknowledged breeds. An enquiry into efficiency and heredity in sheep was performed according to Slovak standards 46 6210 Breeding and commercial sheep and 46 6213 Control of Efficiency andHeredity in Sheep. The Statute of Breeding Book was elaborated by the Union of Sheep and Goat Breeders in 1997. The results gained in performance control in last years are presented (reproduction parameters, growth intensity of lambs, milkefficiency). In the second part of the study presuppositions for the effective breeding program of dairy breeds in next years are discussed. Such a program requires the extension of on-farm milk recording, inevitable need for speeding up of the introduction of artificial insemination and need for applying progressive methods of genetic evaluation of animals (Animal model)
