Pig breeding programmes on the higher lean meat content - important factor for meaty hybrids production
1997
Demo, P.
Slaughter pigs in Slovakia still do not achieve the proportion of lean meat content, expressed by means of apparatus, on the level as in e.g. Denmark or the Netherlands. Most of the market pigs (approx. 45 %) are classified as R. The results of our experiments in experimental herds show that it is possible to recommend for mother breeds to achieve the level of lean meat content within the span from 50 - 51 %, with fathers of final hybrid mothers from 52 - 54 %, and in the terminal position of fathers of hybrid from 55- 56 % in the classical scheme of slaughter hybrid creation (three breed or four breed hybrids). We consider the utilisation of hybrid boars in the combination Yorkshire (meat lines) x Pietrain, Duroc x Pietrain, and Duroc x Yorkshire to be the most prospective in the position "C" of the breeding programmes
