The effects of seasonal composition of diet on the content of urea, total protein, glucose and AST in blood serum and on the urea concentration in urine of dairy cows during the dry period, after calving and in mid-lactation were determined. All three diets (winter, summer and transient diets) showed a higher urea concentration than in the period after calving. The AST activity was higher during the whole period estimated, with a higher increase in dairy cows after calving when fed summer and transient diets
