The clone selection of grapevines in Slovakia is coordinated by the Research Institute for Viticulture and Enology (RIVE) in Bratislava and carried out in its research stations. It is focused on the increase of fertility, quality and health of clones, as well as on prompt introduction of high quality propagation material into vine-growing practice. Its contribution is on a wide wide cultivar basis of clones connected with present possibilities of producing approx. 7 million selected elite buds
