The effect of polymorphous systems of milk proteins (alpha S1 casein, beta casein, kappa casein, and beta lactoglobulin) on chemical composition of milk and on performance traits in dairy cows were studied. 368 dairy cows of the Slovakian Pied breed were evaluated. A statistically significant relation of alpha S1 casein to the percentage of fat and to the somatic cell count, the relation of beta casein to service period, between-calving time during the first lactation, and the relation of beta lactoglobulin to the casein content and urea were determined. No significant relations of kappa casein to the chemical composition of milk and performance traits in dairy cows were found, besides a relation to the sourness of milk
