Colonization of Norway spruce plantations by ectomycorrhizal macrofungi

Colonization of Norway spruce stands planned on agricultural soils by macrofungi was studied on 1989-1993. Research plots have been located in the research area Krivan, Central Slovakia which was continuously farmed for about 300 years and whose reforestation started in the 1960s. The strategy of the colonization of studied former farmland by mycorrhizal fungi expressed as the number of fruit-bodies per one tree varied by species. According to the age of Norway spruce stand ectomycorrhizal macrofungi form three groups: species present during the whole period of the first 30 years, species colonizing stands 7-10 years-old and species occurring as late as in 24 year-old and older stands
