Corn preliminary yield trials of 13 varieties were tested at 6 locations in 1989 early rainy season (June-July). The experimental design was RCB with 4 replications. In BMS FCES and PBN FCES, the AOV of the experiments showed high coefficient of variation (C.V.) 27.1 % and 23.2 % respectively because of the nonuniform soil in both locations. The average yield of 6 locations showed that there were no varieties giving higher yield than NS1, the check variety. In 1989 late rainy season (August), 9 corn varietils were tested in preliminary yield trial at 3 locations. The experimental AOV also showed the problem of high C.V. of 22 % the same as those of PYT in the early season. The results showed that NS1(S)C1F1 gave higher yield than NS1 whereas NS(S)C1F2, the advanced population of NS1(S)C1F1, gave no difference in yield potential comparing to NS1, the original population. The varieties should be further tested for yield potential and agronomic performances in wide ranges of environment in 1990.
