In order to utilize the variations from indigenous corn germplasm for glutinous and tien corn breeding programs, a 3 year project of glutinous corn germplasm collection and evaluation was implemented during 1987-1989 at Srisumrong Experiment Station. The results were summarized as follows: In 1987, 19 glutinous corn varieties were collected from the central part of Thailand. In 1988, other 19 glutinous corn varieties were collected from Philippines and the north-eastern part of Thailand. In 1989, 38 glutinous corn and 26 tien corn varieties were collected from the northern part and the central part of Thailand. Their seeds were increased and evaluated for useful characteristics such as: 50 % silking date, plant and ear heights, days to harvest, number of ears per plant, ear aspect and tenderness score. Their records and remnant seeds were stored in germplasm room at Chiangmai Field Crop Research Center and Patumthani Rice Research Center for further use in glutinous and tien corn breeding programs.
