Molting periods of black tiger shrimp (Penaeus monodon) were studied in intensive cultured ponds. Water qualities during culture period were as followed : temperature 27-28 deg C. pH 7.7-8.4, salinity 9-18 ppt and transparency 25-50 cm. The molting periods of shrimp weight 3.8-7 g, 6.7-9.5 g, 8.4-14.3 g, 10.4-18.2 g, 12.6-20 g, 15.3-23.7 g, 17.3-22.3 g and 20-28.3 g were 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 and 14 days, respectively. Feeding rates of shrimp during and after molting period were also studies. The feeding rate of molting shrimp weight 3.8-28.6 g, decreased 16-21 percent and after molting the feeding rate increased 16-22 percent. Size and weight of hepatopancreas of nearly molted shrimp was less than hard shell shrimp of the same size. The cuticle of nearly molted shrimp is composed of the epicuticle, the exocuticle, the endocuticle, the membranous layer and the new cuticle under the old one but in newly molted shrimp there are only epicuticle and exocuticle.
