Effects of paclobutrazol growth retardant on growth and development, yield and seed quality were studied. The first experiment was conducted during early - rainy season in 1991 at Kamphaeng Saen Campus of Kasetsart University. A 3 * 3 * 3 + 3 factorial in randomized complete block design with four replications was used. The first factor was mungbean cultivar which included Kamphaeng Saen 1, Uthong 1 and PSU.1, the second factor was stage of application (0 day, 5 days and 10 days after flowering) and the third factor was rate of application (500 grams, 750 grams and 1,000 grams ai. per hectare). The residual effect of paclobutrazol using mungbean, sesame and cucumber as tested crops. The second experiment was done in late - rainy season 1992 at phitsanulok Campus of Rajamangala Inst. of Technology. Paclobutrazol had little effect on growth, development and yield in 3 mungbean cultivars. Paclobutrazol tended to increase number of leaf per plant, leaf area index, dry weight of developing seeds, number of flowers per plant, 100 seeds weight, seed moisture content and days to maturity, but tended to reduce specific leaf area, plant height, number of pod per plant, pod - set percentage and seed yield. The paclobutrazol had no effect on seed quality and on germination and seedling establishment of residual - tested crops. Growth and development, yield and yield component of mungbean cv. Kamphaeng Saen 1 were most sensitive to paclobutrazol by foliar spraying method.
