The influence of protein degradability in the feeds on fattening and slaughter results in Ile de France lambs

Investigations were performed on three groups of Ile de France lambs. In each group there was 20 lambs (10 male and 10 female) equalized on the basis of their body weight (P0.05). Three concentrate mixtures with same level of total protein were used for three different feeding treatments. The difference between them was in the degradability of their protein, they had 41.50 and 60 undegradable protein. The analysis of the results was done by least squares procedure by Harvey (1990). The results obtained show that protein supply to the animal, expressed through its degradability in the reticulorumen has influence on the degree of feed utilization which is shown through better feed and nutrient conversion ratio. Lambs that received concentrate mixture with 50 and 60 of undegradable protein achieved better dressing percentage and higher proportion of the first and second meat categories, with less the first meat category in the carcass. This is especially important because those parts have significant influence on meat quality.
