Inheritance of stem height and grain yield components in F4 and F5 generations of winter wheat hybrids. [A short version of master thesis]

In this study, the inheritance of stem height and grain yield components in F4 and F5 generations of winter wheat hybrids were studied. By using several biometric analysis, it was found that stem height, spike length and number of spikelets are strongly controlled by the genetic base, while the phenotypic expression of the number of grains in spike and kernel weight per spike were predominantly affected by environmental conditions. Between parental cultivars used there is significant genetic divergence, so we were able to get desirable recombinations of certain genes from their crosses. Pedigree method of individual selection was very efficient in breeding for increasing of values for some grain yield components. Average values of parental cultivars used had powerful influence on the progeny in F4 and F5 generations. Expected and realized genetic gain was determined for all the examined hybrid combinations. The value of correlation and its changes emphasize the importance of the number of grains and kernel weight per spike for wheat breeding
