The purpose of this study was to clarify the underlying receptor mechanism of the oxytocin actions in the guinea-pig uterine artery. This study has shown that oxytocin induces contraction of guinea-pig uterine artery. On the basis of these results, it seems reasonable to suggest that in guinea-pig uterine artery oxytocin induces contractions predominantly via activation of V1 vasopressin receptors
