Different types and amounts of dietary fats and heart phospholipids in rats

The present study investigated the effects of long term intake of different types (sunflower oil and lard) and amounts (5 and 20) of dietary fats on heart phospholipids in male Wister rats. Animals in control group were fed standard laboratory diet and in experimental groups standard laboratory diet was supplemented with 5 and 20 sunflower oil (groups A and B) and 5 and 20 lard (groups C and D). At the end of experimental period (6 months) animals were sacrified in nembuthal anaesthesia. Heart lipids were extracted and phospholipid content determined. Our results show that different types and amounts of dietary fats had influence on investigated parameters. There was significant increase in total phospholipids and all phospholipid classes in animals fed diet supplemented with 20 sunflower oil. There was significant increase in cardiolipin and phosphatidil-inositol content in animals fed diet supplemented with 5 and sphingophospholipids, phosphatidilcholine and phosphatidilinositol content in animals fed diet supplemented with 20 lard.
