In 1997...1998 three field trials with spring wheat and barley for investigation the possibilities to use the waste solutions of rare earth elements production as fertilizers in crop cultivation were carried out. Two different solutions were tested. Ammonium nitrate solution contained 173...188g nitrogen and 0.28...1.75g rare earths per litre. High concentrated solution of rare eaths contained 215...221g sumR2O3 per litre. These solutions were suitable diluted and applied on spring cereals as a foliar spray. Spraying with ammonium nitrate solutions containing rare earths increased the yield of wheat by 10.7 and 9.1 per cent and of barley by 11.8 per cent. If rare earths were added to spraying solution with urea the yield of wheat increased by 8.9 and 12.3 per cent. Spraying with diluted solutions of rare earth elements increased the yield of wheat by 13.8...14.5 per cent and of barley by 5.4...10.2 per cent. Higher concentrations of rare earths may decrease a productivity of cereals. The experiment will be continued, the aim is determine the optimum applying rates and times for fertilization with rare earths
