Number of chromosomes of the cultivars and breeds developed in Estonia

Chromosome numbers of twenty four breeds of Prunus domestica L. and four sedlings of. P. cerasifera Ehrh. were analysed. All cultivars except one - 'Kressu', were hexaploid. 'Kressu' is derived from the crossing 'La Crescent' (2n=16)x 'Suhkruploom' (2n=48) in 1969 by Eevi and Artur Jaama and it is a tetraploid. The seedlings of myrobalaan analysed were all diploid, but two of them both had an extra chromosome. Fruits of these seedlings with B-chromosomes are greater and they are fruitful
