"SILK HOUSE" is one of of the oldest and wonderful museums in our capital city. It was founded in 1887 by Nikoloz Shavrov, as a part of Sericulture Station of Georgia. The Silk House was an uniting point of "Silk Road" in Caucasus. The Silk Road-road between Poti-Telavi-Belakani-Nukhi was a trading higway Kakheti to Tergy and Astrakhan, via Dagestan-Sashamcklo. The Silk Road played an important role in the cultural and economic relations between East and West countries.In the International project, UNESCO has acknowledged the importance of the Silk Road and considers it reasonable to conductits integrated study. The Silk Road is in a different way viewed in the modern epoch and it is atteched the great importance in terms of Georgia economy, that contributes to the political and economic strategy of our country-"Georgia was, is and will remain an open gate, host and link between East and West countries.
