The productivity of cattle and the effect of the feeds used are mostly determined by the digestibility of organic matters of the feeds used. In Germany this parameter of cattle feeds is determined by means of Hohenheim Feeds Evaluation Test (HFT). The method enables to determine quickly and exactly the digestibility (in vitro) of organic matter of feeds given to cattle and sheep. The results obtained allow to choose the feeds which are better assimilated, and to balance the ration of animals more efficiently.
