The possibilities of the use of nectar plants for obtaining both nectar and seed yields as well as for using them as green manure were studied in the region of Cesis in 1996-1998. The results of the investigations indicate: 1) maximum herbage yields with the highest levels of N, P2O5 and K2O accumulated in crop yield were produced at the late blossom stage of sweet clover, buckwheat and phacelia after obtaining nectar yield; 2) the average content of available NPK in the green mass of these nectar plants by 4.2 kg tE-1 (41%) outyielded that in cattle manure of medium quality (10.2 kg tE-1); 3) the average content of available NPK reached 18.5 kg tE-1 for three species of nectar plants after seed harvest. Incorporation of straw (8.24 t haE-1, three fields average, 1996-1998) resulted in available NPK content 163 kg haE-1 in soil and contributed to soil fertility; 4) the highest gross profit level is obtained producing nectar and seed yields in combination with straw applied as fertilizer.
