The results of research on the yield and quality of grass in pastures as well as the influence of these parameters on milk yield and cost are presented and discussed. A field trial was carried out in Research and Training Farm Vecauce, LUA. It was established that portional grasing in a highly productive sward for twenty four hours ensured both the highest milk yield and the lowest milk cost. At the proper stage of grass maturity it was possible to develop high feed energy (NEL) and protein content though the content of neutral detergent fiber was up-to-the mark of top quality feed value.
